sport as globalanguage
literal translations of language. just like ballon-panier or piste et pilouse or the "4-round-the-bases = home run" in Lithuania. in sport, language crosses the linguistic divide. sport has a language (not always verbal). this language is inevitably linked to the process of globalization. what is offsides in Yugoslavia? what is offsides in France? why did one country adopt the 'universanglo' version and the other resist? what is sport's role as the global language and how is its role evolving? how does it promote unity and stimulate resistance simultaneously at the same time ?
The diffussion of linguistic dominance through globalized sport?
Or a stage for the viceral repulsion of sport homogeneity? t.b.a.
