sport as globalanguge: part duh
sport transcends cultures to the point that it can be viewed as a global form of communication. better yet, it has emerged as a 'glocal' form of interaction where identities of self and collective identities are (re)created (actualization?). the participant/spectator, the producer/consumer, the individual/collective are all identity-related binaries I associate with any study of sport. whatever one's interpretations on the semantical differences between cultures and organizations (a contextual difference if there was one), i believe that sport is ubiquitously comfortable in either (con)text of choice.

the 'battle' between sport and cultural studies versus sport and organizational studies is often skewed towards one's epistemological and ontological leanings. in other words, it is related to interpretations of knowledge and being. these infinite interpretations also represent the potential for misuse of the terms 'culture' and/or 'organization' as generalizable constructs. much like sport and 'styles of play', cultures and organizations are contextually and interchangeably distinct. as a research focus, i am looking at contextually highlighting these distinctions through a process of constant comparison, all in an effort to understand how meaning is (re)created through sport.
