My theory for these stats? It's a good thing the LTAD model has been put in place. Some of these players were probably not pushed as hard as early and didn't burn out. They were late bloomers. I am not shocked by the stats. Picking who are going to be top players in the future is not easy aside from the few exceptions every year. Not every 1st overall pick is a Crosby.
Luke, your comment at the end is perfect. Everyone kid wants to be the next Gretzky, Lemieux, or Crosby. From what I've seen and heard, no one wants to be the Colby Armstrong's of the NHL. In case someone doesn't know, a big reason why Crosby did so well was because of Armstrong.
Too many young people trying to be leaders and not followers.
Anyone remember when Rob Zamuner was selected for Team Canada over other significant players during the 1998 Winter Olympics? Or am I dating myself here...
